Virtual liturgies, prayer apps, online communities, and digital retreats now offer unprecedented accessibility and resonance. These platforms can extend sacred space and sustain connection, yet they also risk enclosing believers within curated environments that privilege immediacy, emotional gratification, and algorithmic mediation.This article examines the phenomenon of digital spirituality through the lens of theological anthropology, especially the vision of the human person as ima-go Dei—embodied, relational, and called to communion. Insights from neuro-science and psychology show how digital technologies stimulate reward and bonding systems, generating the sensation of connection. But without embodied presence and mutual vulnerability, such experiences often lack the depth needed for lasting transformation. Digital spirituality thus reveals both its promise and its peril. It can serve as a supplement to religious life, offering new avenues of access and reflection, but it also carries hidden risks of commodification, superficiality, and addiction. Authentic spiritual maturity cannot be reduced to the passive consumption of digital content.
