The method uses the temperature-dependent variation in CT number (Hounsfield unit) as a non-invasive indicator of wood density and thermal response. A total of 27 cube-shaped samples (50 × 50 × 50) mm from three species – spruce, beech, and oak – at three moisture content levels (0%, 6%, and 12%) were tested. The effects of region of interest (ROI) size and position were systematically evaluated. Smaller ROIs (e.g., single pixels, 1%) showed unreliable CT numbers due to local variability, whereas ROIs covering at least 16% of the sample provided consistent results. Thermal sensitivity, i.e. change in density with temperature (a = Δρ/ΔT), was highest in regions with uniform wood anatomical structure and decreased towards the core of the samples due to slower heat transfer. Differences between theoretical temperature curves and actual curves, determined by CT measurements, indicated a lag in thermal response within the wood, particularly in samples sealed with silicone. These results show that X-ray CT thermometry is a promising method for real-time internal temperature monitoring of wood and suggest future potential in wood thermal treatment, fire safety analysis, and material degradation research.</dc:description><dc:publisher>[M.
