They were instructed to produce each item at a natural speaking rate, pausing between individual words. The recordings were analysed acoustically in Praat, and VOT duration values were extracted.
The Slovenian set consisted of forty-eight existing words representing all six Slovenian stops (/p t k b d g/) in word initial, stressed syllable position, each combined with one of the eight Slovenian vowels (/i e ɛ ə a ɔ o u/). The list was read twice: first with items grouped by the following vowel (e.g., pita, tik, kip …), and then with items grouped by the initial stop (e.g., pita, péta, pêta …).
The English set contained seventy-one items representing the corresponding English stops combined with each of the twelve British English monophthongs (/iː ɪ e ɛ: æ ɜ: ʌ ɑː ɒ ɔː u: ʊ/). These items were likewise read twice, following the same procedure as for Slovenian: first grouped by the following vowel (e.g., Peter, teak, Turk …), and then by the initial stop (e.g., Peter, pits, pets …). The uneven total number of English items (71) reflects a gap in the /d/ set: no suitable candidate beginning with /dʊ/ could be identified.
VOT measurements (in ms) are listed in a CVS table, organized by word, speaker (S1, S2, S3, S4, S5 and S6) and repetition (VOT-1 and VOT-2). The file SLO_VOT_data.csv contains the Slovenian data, and the file ENG_VOT_data.csv the English data.</dc:description><dc:date>2026</dc:date><dc:date>2026-02-26 16:19:14</dc:date><dc:type>Neznano</dc:type><dc:identifier>179916</dc:identifier><dc:language>sl</dc:language><dc:coverage>Slovenia</dc:coverage><dc:coverage>2025-2026</dc:coverage></metadata>
