The review evaluates the book’s structure, which progresses from foundational academic writing principles through genre-specific instruction to advanced textual mechanics and referencing conventions. Particular attention is given to the pedagogical enhancements introduced in the fourth edition, including self-assessment tools, comprehensive coverage of specialized nursing and midwifery contexts, and alignment with contemporary, evidence-based practice. The review highlights the book’s distinctive student-centred approach, characterized by numerous exercises, reflective activities, and practical examples drawn from diverse clinical settings. While recognizing the volume’s substantial contributions to academic writing in healthcare education, the review proposes three enhancements for future editions: guidance on the ethical integration of artificial intelligence in academic writing, expanded coverage of advanced research genres for postgraduate students, and incorporation of multimodal digital resources to address the learning preferences of contemporary student cohorts.
