The same question plays a central role in the cleavage of Montenegrin society into pro-Montenegrin and pro-Serb camps that are present within it, and fundamentally contribute to the creation of further tensions and division. Initially, the thesis aims to provide some of the factors that contributed to the formation of the national identities and explicate the evolution of these identities and of national consciousness that are troubling the inhabitants of Montenegro. This is done through an explanatory case study research design. The data were collected through analysis of primary and secondary sources. Regarding the scientific contribution of the master's thesis, it will contribute to a wider corpus of ethnosymbolic literature and will add one more important variable: the concept of the sentimental blocs, which is not sufficiently incorporated in already existing research and academic works on the topics of nation, nationalism, and ethnosymbolism. Finally, the thesis provides a more robust explanatory model of the genesis and development of national identities in Montenegro, compared to the theories that are dominantly used to explain the national question of Montenegro.</dc:description><dc:publisher>D.
