Through meticulous examination and analysis, the aim was to discern the trajectory of local cultural development and to establish possible chronological continuity throughout the first millennium BC. Central to this endeavour was the examination of the material culture that has emerged in the lakeside region. This examination was complemented by a detailed study of the written, epigraphic and numismatic artefacts discovered in the region. In addition, considerable attention was paid to the historiography of research efforts in the area, including both fieldwork and archival research. This was essential given the challenges of interpreting material culture amidst scientific inquiry and cultural-historical inferences. By incorporating findings from advanced research initiatives conducted by diverse international teams in the lake area, the thesis seeks to transcend conventional narratives. It aims to present the Big Lakes region as a distinct geomorphological entity that nurtured its own distinctive cultural development during the first millennium BC.</dc:description><dc:publisher>P.
