It has been shown that public open spaces are a key element of the city, places of social activities, bases of mental maps to which users are attached.

A person, a user, realizes certain needs through communication, meeting, interaction, group identification, and through certain spaces/places (here, public spaces). The transformation of public space as a place (context) of realization of human needs also changes the way of realization of needs satisfaction.

Public life throughout history also plays an important role in the survival of public spaces. Today's context is in many ways more complex, and there are more threats to public life, public space and the role of users. The wide range of different influences on changes in the state of public spaces in modern cities, especially since different influences create problems that consequently affect one another (e.g. the Corona virus crisis), imposed the need to look at the problem from all relevant aspects and to integrate the insights gained in this way into a comprehensive insight into the problem of today's public spaces, which thus becomes extremely complex, the so-called wicked problem. In order to solve the problem, it turned out that it needs to be approached holistically. It turned out that the problem of public spaces is of a multidisciplinary nature, and the need to connect diverse aspects into an effective unity imposed the need to develop an interdisciplinary approach in research and solving this complex problem. Therefore, the literature was viewed through two main topics, topics related to public space and topics of revitalization approach - interdisciplinary/transdisciplinary approach.

In the end, the following was concluded:

The problem of the revitalization of open public spaces obviously goes beyond the horizon of any of the relevant disciplines and can only be viewed comprehensively from the aspects of the entire range of diverse professions and scientific disciplines that deal with the problem of open public spaces with their contributions. The development of parallel, but separate contributions of various professions creates the problem of connecting or contributing to an integrated whole, because only by integrating these contributions can the problem of revitalization be comprehensively viewed and successful procedures for the revitalization of open public spaces can be conceived, i.e. the creation of new open public spaces that meet emerging needs. The problem of integration contribution of various professions leads to the need for interdisciplinary cooperation between relevant professions and scientific disciplines. In the attempts of an interdisciplinary approach to solving the problem of revitalization of open public spaces, it is becoming increasingly clear that the problems of the revitalization of open public spaces can only be successfully solved by including all interested subjects, especially the different categories of users of open public spaces, but also those social institutions whose participation is necessary for the successful solution of the revitalization problem open public spaces. Through the analysis of the interdisciplinary/transdisciplinary approach, it was shown lack of awareness among the public about what is needed for the successful revitalization of open public spaces (such as the necessary structure of participants, the necessary knowledge of participants, the necessary methods of cooperation between participants) and the openness of institutions towards solving the problems of open public spaces.

The hypothesis was confirmed that the revitalization of public life in open public spaces is an extremely complex problem that can only be successfully solved by integrating all relevant scientific disciplines and practical professions. Such inclusion is carried out with an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach. In the end, through examples of past practices, through numerous platforms for the continuation of interdisciplinary/transdisciplinary integration, it was concluded that guidelines are needed that start from the analysis of the context, which includes the sources of incentives for the revitalization of public open spaces and ways of acting in each possible case.

It can be concluded that an interdisciplinary/transdisciplinary approach is necessary (it enables a comprehensive understanding of the problem by various subjects and participants).</dc:description><dc:publisher>J.
