To address this, a survey was conducted to assess the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ people in three key areas: discrimination, hate crime and hate speech, and mental health. After collecting the responses, the results were first analysed across age groups, regions, sexual orientations, and gender identities, and were subsequently compared to the annual Rainbow Index data for Slovenia. The findings indicate that younger LGBTQ+ individuals – particularly those up to approximately 30 years of age – face greater challenges than older generations. They report higher levels of discrimination, greater exposure to hate speech, and more frequent mental health difficulties. Transgender and non-binary respondents also emerge as groups experiencing the most significant challenges related to their LGBTQ+ identity. The results further show that LGBTQ+ individuals encounter the highest levels of discrimination at home and in school, while reports of discrimination in healthcare settings (both general healthcare and gynaecological/urological) are very low. Moreover, the data reveal virtually no difference in experiences between LGBTQ+ individuals living in the Central Slovenia region and those residing elsewhere in the country. Overall, the comparison between the survey results and the Rainbow Index suggests that the Index relies exclusively on publicly available information, conducts no fieldwork, and does not consider mental health. Consequently, the Rainbow Index alone does not provide a fully comprehensive picture of the lived realities of LGBTQ+ individuals in Slovenia.</dc:description><dc:publisher>N.
