This article examines the factors influencing the decision to retire from elite-level artistic gymnastics in Brazil. Understanding these factors is essential not only for researchers but also for coaches, sports managers, and athletes themselves, as it can help facilitate a smoother and more successful transition to life after high-performance sport. This research adopted a qualitative approach with a descriptive-interpretative design, using semi-structured interviews as the data collection technique. The sample comprised 12 participants, all former elite-level artistic gymnastics athletes aged over 18, who retired between 2001 and 2020. The results showed that athletes retired due to both voluntary and involuntary factors. Specifically, four athletes retired due to injuries (hip, shoulder, and lower back), one was dismissed from his sport club, and seven retired by choice. The reasons included achieving objectives, reaching physical limits, pursuing higher education, seeking better financial opportunities, and experiencing conflicts with coaches or Brazilian national team managers. In conclusion, the decision to retire from elite gymnastics is a multifaceted process involving not only physical aspects but also emotional and social dimensions. Recognising and addressing these factors is imperative to better support gymnasts through this critical life transition.</dc:description>

<dc:type>Članek v reviji</dc:type><dc:identifier>183726</dc:identifier>
<dc:rights>Podatek o licenci CC BY-SA 4.0 je naveden na pristajalni strani članka (glej zgoraj izvorni URL).
