It questions whether codified design limits urban character or enables more sustainable forms of growth. Drawing on principles of green urbanism, new building codes were developed and tested to address contemporary needs. It demonstrates the multiscale impact of regulation, showing how codes influence neighbourhood density, building configuration, and even apartment layouts, while mediating relationships between public and private space. Findings reveal the dual role of urban codes: providing spatial clarity and resilience while constraining architectural diversity.
