The town has a long tradition of spa tourism, which has an impact on its spatial layout and the life of the local community, and consequently on the development of a local grassroots and alternative culture. The thesis is divided into three main parts: 1. space; 2. alternative and grassroots culture; and 3. overview of grassroots alternative culture in Rogaška Slatina. The first part is mainly dedicated to tourist space and includes a historical overview of the development of Rogaška Slatina. The second part offers general views and definitions of grassroots and alternative culture, while the third is focused on grassroots alternative culture in Rogaška Slatina. The latter is further divided into three subchapters, the first dealing with local activists' memories of spaces, the second describing the activists and their activity, and the last one on political organising, more specifically the struggle for a Youth Centre. Tourism certainly has an impact on the lives of local people, some of whom have creative and artistic needs that are not easily met in their environment.
