Learning English and German through stories
The master’s thesis is dedicated to the importance of stories as a means of teaching and learning a foreign language. There are many reasons why stories should play, if not a central, at least an important role in foreign language learning and teaching. It is important that children create stories, accept the stories of others and respond to them. Stories, mostly word-based with possible visual support, offer an important and constant source of linguistic input and experience. Through this language input and experience, children learn to speak and write. When children create or tell a story in a foreign language, the story and the language become their own. Stories help children understand the world and share it with others, approach challenges creatively and develop emotional intelligence.
The aim of the master’s thesis is to find out how children learn a foreign language, what stories are and what their role is in teaching a foreign language. In the foreground is the question of how to choose literary works for a specific target group and, with careful planning, use them in teaching as a substitute for textbooks and didactic texts. In addition to children’s and youth literature, the master’s thesis also includes a chapter on picture books, the essence of which is not only words but also visualization. When selecting stories, we must be careful and take into account many factors, and at the same time know exactly what goals we are setting and what competencies we want to develop and implement with the text.
Based on fairy tales and stories, in the practical part of the master’s thesis, two lesson plans for teaching German as a foreign language and two lesson plans for teaching English as a foreign language are proposed. The lesson plans based on selected texts offer concrete suggestions for work in the classroom and bring additional value to learning a foreign language.</dc:description><dc:date>2023</dc:date><dc:date>2023-04-26 07:45:14</dc:date><dc:type>Magistrsko delo/naloga</dc:type><dc:identifier>145605</dc:identifier><dc:language>sl</dc:language></rdf:Description></rdf:RDF>
