Introduction: Periodontal disease or inflammation of dental tissue is the most common cause of teeth loss in adults. Because of poor awareness of the disease, the disease is very widespread. The causes of the formation are poor oral hygiene, inexactly produced fills and prosthetic substitutes. Genetic predisposition, smoking, stress and pregnancy are just some of the factors that contribute to the onset of disease. The disease is painless and develops for many years. The consequence of the disease is the loss of soft and hard-tissue tissues that are lost forever and can no longer be recovered. The disease poses a great risk to systemic health, since bacteria do not only stay in the mouth but extend over time to the whole organism. Purpose: The diploma work will include explanations for periodontal disease; The causes of the formation, the different stages of the disease and their course, the signs of the disease and its consequences. We have described how the periodontal disease affects the condition of the mouth, how it is treated, how to maintain proper hygiene, and how it makes it difficult for us to make prosthetic substitutes. We emphasized the importance of the team's collaboration, consisting of a dentist, a dental assistant and an oral hygienist. Methods: In the diploma work, we used mostly the descriptive method of work. We have examined domestic and foreign professional literature on various portals such as DiKUL, MEDLINE and COBISS. We searched for various articles and books related to periodontology, prosthetics and oral hygiene. We rejected the inappropriate literature, and kept and use the appropriate. As part of our diploma work, we will also produce a prosthetic product for a patient whose identity will not be known for the protection of personal data. We will describe and document the work accurately. Discussion and conclusion: Periodontal disease occurs from previous inflammation of the gum. It develops due to poor oral hygiene. It would be sensible that a dentist sends the patient to the oral hygienist, to learn how to maintain oral hygiene. They would also be assisted with free preventive examinations where the dentist would check the patient and find out if he had a periodontal disease and immediately started treatment if the disease was present.
