The golden jackal (Canis aureus L.) has been spreading rapidly across Europe in recent decades. Similarly applies to Slovenia, where the presence of the species has been recorded since 1953, and the number of observations has increased in recent years. One of the areas from where more and more reports are known is Primorska region, but precise data on the prevalence of species are scant and outdated. The aim of the Thesis is to collect information on the distribution of jackals in the Primorska region based on the observations of the hunting grounds managers and to carry out a systematic survey of territorial jackals through the stimulation of jackal howling using a playback of their vocalization. Based on jackal responses, we estimated the minimum density of territorial families in the Primorska region. Out of 70 calling stations, we detected the response of 13 jackal territorial groups. The analysis showed that the minimum density of territorial jackals in the Primorska region ranges between 0,27 and 0,30 territorial groups/10 km2. The prevalence of the jackal is influenced by several factors among which the main is habitat area. Thus, we do not know whether the population will increase, decrease or stay the same in the future because we do not know much about the species yet. We can only confirm that the golden jackal has become an integral part of our natural environment.
