This thesis studies and compares the fire resistance of steel and aluminium planar beams. Analyzed beam is part of a facade construction that transmits the load of its own weight and the influence of the wind. The introduction describes the general rules for structural fire safety and safety regulation. Furthermore, the general mechanical and thermal properties of steel and aluminium at an elevated temperature are presented. The main focus of the thesis is on the design rules which are summarized after the Eurocode 3 and Eurocode 9 standards. The main differences in designing between the two materials are also highlighted. Moreover, fire resistance calculations of the steel and aluminium beam according exposed to the standard fire curve ISO 834 are shown. The conclusion presents the results obtained in the computational part of the thesis.
