The aim of the thesis was to find out how the gymnastics elements were taught in primary and secondary scools in the years of 2004 and 2015. In the period of these eleven years the gymnastics curriculum had been updated and therefore we also wanted to find out whether the teachers had followed the curriculum and whether the teaching of gymnastics in schools had increased or decreased. The reasearch included the students who entered the 1st year of the Faculty of Sport in the years of 2004 and 2015, and included 212 students studying Sports Education (2004) and 143 students studying Sports Education, Sports Training in Kinesiology (2015). The data was collected by the help of a questionary and processed with the SPSS program. χ2 test was used for acquiring certain differences and Excell program for presentation of the acquired data.
The research showed that in primary schools statistically signiciant difference occured in use of the following apparatus: vault, floor, pommel horse, minitramp, gymnastics board and gymnastics goat, whereas in secondary schools the difference occured in the use of pommel horse, minitramp and gymnastics skill cushions. In primary schools the most frequently used apparatus was a gymnastics goat, whereas in secondary schools it was uneven bars in 2004 and beam in 2015. The question about the knowledge of the students regarding apparatus used in women's artistic gymnastics revealed statistically significant changes between the years of 2004 and 2015 with all four apparatus (vault, uneven bars, floor, beam). The same question about the men's artisitic gymnastics revealed statistically significant differences with only two apparatus: pommel horse and vault.
