Basketball referees are official personalities, who make shore that each team has equal chance of winning the game. There are many factors that effect the referee`s decisions during the game. Referee pairs are different every single game, that is why cooperation between different basketball judges is so important. Interpersonal skills and personalities are part of our lives. We communicate and establish relationships at several levels, both in private and professionally. We spend the majority of our lives in a society where we need to communicate and build interpersonal relationships with different people, especially in team work, where more people are involved in interaction. It is sometimes very difficult to find and maintain a good balance of healthy relations. Therefore, according to the basketball judiciary system, it is necessary to establish a quality relationship and proper communication within a short period of time.
My degree is divided in two parts; theoretical and experimental. In theoretical part we present the work of basketball referees and their interpersonal skills and personalities. In experimental part we learn the social skills and dimensions of personalities, depending the referee`s ranks and age.
We found out that basketball judges have very well developed dimensions of social skills and personalities, but most of the dimensions do not have a connection to the rank or age of a referee. Among the dimension of social characteristics, only social sensibility and social control have a connection to age and among dimensions of personalities, emotional control and acceptance are the once that depend on an age of referee.
