The most common reason for finding more and more non-native invasive animal and plant species in nature, is human. We find them in nature because people do not want or cannot take of animals anymore, or because of people being ill-informed. Alochton (non-native) species do not have predators. Some of them reproduce and supplant endangered, native species. When reproducing and supplanting are successful, those species become invasive. The Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2016/1141 of 13 July 2016 adopting a list of invasive alien species of Union, dictates all the members of the EU to remove the invasive species from nature and succesful revitalization of native species. That is how the EU regulation 1143/2014 about invasive alien species has been implemented. The European pond turtle (Emys orbicularis) is an endangered turtle species, that has been threatened mostly by a red eared slider (Trachemys scripta elegans). The European pond turtle is smaller than the invasive alien turtles, so the latter is overtaking as there is a competition between native an non-native species for food and living habitat.
