Introduction: Epilepsy is a common chronic neurological disorder in children and adolescents, which affects on quality of life. Perception of the term health related quality of life is diffrent from person to person. That term is comprising different areas of life, which impact on quality of life is determined individually by person. In children and adolescents with epilepsy we have to pay attention not only on the physical domain, but also the psychosocial domain, because of the underway of the processes of socialization and independence and autonomy development. Antiepileptic drugs and their side effects also have an important impact on quality of life, because they causes many problems which chidlren and adolescents have. Purpose: The purpose of diploma paper is to explore, what the term quality of life means and to figure out if epilepsy have an impact on psychosocial and physical determinat of quality of life. We also wanted to consider if epilepsy and antiepileptic drugs have an impact on cognitive functions of children and adolescents with epilepsy. Methods: We used the decriptive method. We accesed to the literature by MEDLINE, CINAHL and ScienceDirect databases. With taking into account of the including and excluding criteria we choosed 43 articles, which was closely owerwieved. Results: The results showed tne multidimesionality of the term quality of life and the impact of epilepsy on psichosocial and physical determinant of providing quality of life. The results also confirmed the impact of epilepsy and antiepileptic drugs on cognitive functions of children and adolescents with epilepsy. Discussion and conclusion: With the literature rewiew we found out, that the term health related quality of life comprise many areas, which reflects the quality of life and that the children and adolescents reffer bigger impact of the psychosocial domain to the quality of life than the physical domain. Children and adolescents are in specific lifetime, when peer relations and independence development are especialy important for construction of their personality and healthy self-esteem. We have to recognize the negative effects of epilepsy on quality of life and use appropiate interventions to reduce their impact and provide children and adolescents as hihg quality of life as we can.
