The purpose of the thesis was to establish the social and tennis characteristics of an average Slovenian recreational tennis player. We were especially interested in their social status, gender demographics of tennis players, as well as the motives that encouraged them to start playing tennis. We wanted to learn whether the recreational tennis players started playing at a young age, and how often they play it now. The questionnaire was filled in by 54 recreational tennis players of both genders at two recreational tournaments and a children's tournament, held in Kočevje and in Ljubljana. The players at the tournaments filled in the questionnaire after their matches, while at the children's tournament the questionnaire was filled in by spectators who play tennis recreationally. The obtained data were processed using Microsoft Excel. Based on the result it was established that the majority of recreational tennis players were male, most of the respondents do not have university education, and are not owners of real estate property of a value above 100,000 €. The data showed that the gross annual income of recreative tennis players of both genders ranges below 20,000 €, and that they play tennis less than three times a week. More than one half of the respondents of both genders participate at less than one tournament per month. The respondents' main reasons for playing tennis are socializing, and pleasure.
