Already fom early ages of mankind ceramics has a purpose of making life easier for people. As mankind evolved, so did its needs and ceramics evolved an infinite number of forms. With its origin in the practical aspect it suggests its usefulness and therefore the word ceramics still evokes to memory a pot, a functional ceramics, which we deal with the most. A functional pot is the beginning and basis of ceramics. A simple pot evolves into combined and further into an even more complex one. A hand-free design is joined by other manufactoring techniques, pressing and casting into a mould, wheel throwing technique. The surface is becoming increasingly important. With the use of color glazes the ceramics is becoming painting, with the addition of modeled applications it is slipping into sculpting until it prevails over the pot. The pot becomes useless, it becomes a sculpture. Finally, a ceramic sculpture becomes self-referential. It represents (thinks) itself, it explores options and requirements of the material and technological procedures it is made of.
