In today's modern energy situation electricity grids are increasingly overloaded and consequently, it is difficult to follow ever increasing demands for amounts of energy in such circumstances.
One possible solution to this problem is the use of electronic regulating devices, which allow the impact to the existing electric power system with its minimal modification. One type of these regulating devices is represented by the FACTS devices. The exploration, integration and use of these devices in electric power systems (EPS) are based on the analysis of the power flow or energy flow calculation.
Power flow is calculated by using different methods based on mathematical models.
It turns out that the most successful method for calculating the energy flows is the numerical iterative method Newton-Rhapson.
In this thesis, some of the most common regulating devices FACTS are presented and further on implemented in the calculation of the energy flows.
It should be observed that the programming of the power flows is not possible without appropriate software tools. In the research, Matlab and Matpower served in writing the software code and in verifying its correctness. Further on in this thesis, the program for calculating energy flows is presented. Its performance and functionality have been verified by using the Matpower program.
