The main topic of my thesis is the period of adolescence, i.e. a period in which one goes through a number of changes and developments in many different areas. I was particularly interested in family relationships and their evolution during adolescence, since this topic was closely connected with my art assignment.
In the theoretical part, I defined the changes that occur in adolescence and focused on those that take place in the relationships between adolescents and their peers and families. I further researched the development of children’s drawings and their stages, which helped me better understand and analyse family portraits. Before the analysis, I identified some of the principles that should be respected when analysing children’s artworks.
In the practical part, I prepared a lesson on family portrait and taught it in the 9th grade of primary school. I received ten drawings and analysed them from the art perspective. I also tried to identify the characteristics of authors’ families and relationships within them. I summed up some of the characteristics that are common in most artworks and presented certain advantages of setting such art assignments in the final grades of primary school.
