The present master's thesis presents a comparison of the operation of schoolbook markets in three Central European countries: Slovenia, Austria and the Czech Republic, based on selected readers or literature textbooks in year one of high school. The following aspects are compared: systems of approval and financing of the schoolbooks and whether selection is possible or not. Special attention is paid to the comparison of the situation regarding e-schoolbook materials. The comparative analysis method is used to compare materials used in literature classes in year one of high school in the selected countries. The thesis also presents the opinions of selected teachers from the countries being compared about the matter at hand, the opinions having been obtained through structured interviews. Results show that the most developed schoolbook market (which in this case is the Austrian one) also offers the broadest and most varied selection of materials for literature class in year one of high school. Likewise, the Austrian schoolbook market offers guidelines for further development of e-schoolbook materials.
