Nowdays, modern health care system cannot be imagined without medical devices which assist in taking appropriate clinical and therapeutic decisions. Medical devices are intended for diagnosis of diseases and other medical conditions and treatments, mitigations or preventions of diseases, both in humans and animals.
It is highly desired that medical devices are connected to the network and thus able to communicate with information systems such as LIS and HIS. In this way, it is possible to manage these devices remotely and to exchange patient data as well as test results. There are several communication protocols available, which enable communication with medical devices, one of which is POCT1-A2 standard.
Information system that implements POCT1-A2 protocol must be able to communicate with any medical device that supports this protocol. There are various types of medical devices from different manufacturers that support the protocol in greater or lesser extent. So how to make sure that our information system is capable of adequately communicating with all these different devices?
We have therefore designed and developed a test tool as part of this thesis, to simulate any medical device on a communication protocol level, as defined in POCT1-A2 standard.
