The master's thesis analyses the reading of fantasy novels in Slovenia. The definition of a contemporary fantasy novel and its literary value theory are outlined. Stated in the work is the reason for the dominance of foreign authors and placement of a novel on Slovenian book market, the time when reading of fantasy novels became popular, which novels started the trend in Slovenia, which publishing companies publish fantasy novels, whether they are meaningfully organized in separate series, whether we also have recognisable Slovene authors and how successful they are compared to foreign ones. Depicted is also the borrowing-purchase ratio and how many fantasy novels, compared to other popular genres, public libraries have in stock. A survey conducted with the help of an online questionnaire is presented as well; it reveals reading habits and the popularity of fantasy novels and their authors in the Slovenian area.
