Thesis target group are pre- and in-service primary school teachers. We wish to encourage them to use the experiential teaching. Work covers inductive teaching methods, its history and features. Experiential teaching its pioneers, principles, phases and methods are presented in detail. It is further used for teaching purpose of engineering education at elementary school level. Environmental science and design and technology curriculums were examined for the degree of experiential teaching used. Wind indicator was chosen as a main motivation for the experimental teaching example. An overview is presented and several different wind indicators for hands-on experience are given and evaluated. Thesis presents a teaching lesson plan for making a wind indicator by using an experiential learning method that is appropriate for teaching 7 years old students in the primary school.
