The image of the European region almost totally changed during the last decadefrom the political, economic, social and security perspective. Slovenia wants to become a EU member and consequently adjusts its legislation with the EU legislation. Because of the high level of adjustment in this respect, the Republic of Slovenia does not expect major difficulties in the process of adopting and performing the planned legislation. Slovenian does not expect anyproblems in policies in the field of migration, control and protection of the state border and the future external EU border, and preventing international organised criminal activities. There are also proper mechanisms in the frame of the state as well as in the field of international co-operation, especially with EU and the member states, and corresponding international organisations. By executing the planned tasks in the institutional field the Republic of Slovenia will be prepared to perform the EU legal order by the end of 2002, and in the following years also the specialrequests of the Schengen legal order, taking into account specific circumstances of its performance.
