The author explains the role of military threats to security in the context ofnon-traditionalist and multidimensional approach to security. Entirely new threats to security after the end of cold war do not exist, however it is true that the intensity of many old phenomena (e.g. crime, terrorism, environmental degradation etc.) has increased. High intensity of stressing thenon-military threats in our societies caused cognitive degradation of military threats. Nevertheless, the military conflict still represents a form of most severe danger to human lives and entire civilisation. The key military threat is triggering of military conflict or war and not other derivedforms of military threatening (e.g. proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and similar). Due to interconnectedness of various security threats, the analysis of military threats to security has to comprehend also many non-military elements. The author also compares the exposure to military threats in 40 European countries with various statistical methods.
