Slovenia is a densely wooded country taking 3rd place in Europe, after Sweden and Finland. Wood is a unique gift of nature, which we have in abundance. It is the material of the future, so we should give it its right place in our everyday life, economy and politics. Wood offers us numerous options, but the question is, whether we know how to make good use of it. We must not allow becoming only the mine of green gold extraction, as we are fortuned with more knowledge than just felling of trees, timber trading and burning. We researched Slovenians' attitude toward our national natural wealth. We established that the survey participants really do appreciate and value the wood and wood products, and the majority of participants would choose a wooden prefabricated house, which is quite encouraging, given that Slovenia is dominated by classic brick houses. More than half of the participants support the use of wood for energetic purposes, for heating, which is a bit too high percentage, but then again understandable regarding the country's stimulation. On the contrary, not many were in favour of the use of wood products. In order to increase the use of wood and wood products the competent ministries and professionals will have to inform, educate and present advantages of wood and wood products to us.
