At introduction of new protective means lots of researches and testings have to be done. The efficiency of Meldur-DMES, a protective means against termites, was tested. Samples of boron and spruce were modified with 2 concentrations of reagent (5 and 10 % with and without a catalyzer), and afterwards thermally modified at 170 °C. These 2 procedures improved the resistance of wood on biotic stability and increased its dimension stability. Before exposing samples to yellowneck termite (Kalotermes flavicollis) they were washed/artificially aged according to standard SIST EN 84. It was found out that this means is effective only when the samples are modified with higher concentration of Meldur-DMES. Thermal modification at 170 °C improves the resistance on thermites even more.Samples, modified with Meldur-DMES with catalyzer (boric acid) at 170 °C show the best thermite resistance, because at these conditions the mortality rate is the biggest and injury of samples minimal.
