This thesis presents and demonstrates the use of numerical methods in heat transfer modeling for protected timber elements exposed to fire. A numerical model based on finite element method with the use of triangular finite elements has been produced in the software environment Matlab, solely for the purpose of this thesis. The presented numerical model helped conducting analyses on the impact of thermal isolation and the impact of moisture in timber on the development of the heating regime in a timber element. The results show that both thermal isolation and moisture in timber have great impact on temperature distribution in timber element.
