With the progress of building construction, every year we obtain new building technology and new building materials. Such developments result in new products, which may increase the complexity of the decision an investor needs to make.
With a desire to promote modern design and facilitate investor’s decision-making, in my thesis I examinated various possibilities for designing a two-storey dwelling house. In particular, I designed the same floor plan and the same architectural basis using three different structural assemblies. The first was a concrete house with brick filling, the second was an exoskeleton wooden house, while the third was an andoskeleton wooden house. In all
three cases, I emphasized the economic aspects of the project by estimating the cost for each construction.
In the initial part of my thesis I reviewed the main concepts in pricing building work, described the typical phases involved in construction, and introduced basic formula for dimensioning structural elements.
Next, I applied the reviewed concepts to design and price a two-storey dwelling house using three different structural assemblies.
Finally I compared the structures from a technical and financial perspective.
