Circumstances in Slovenian sport have changed significantly since Slovenia become an independent State fifteen years ago. The socialist model based on the so called "self-managing communities of interest" and financing from the share of all the employed salaries doesn't exist any more. Before the disuniting of central national sport societies representing different sport disciplines from Yugoslavian ones, the Yugoslavian societies were the creatorsof the international sport policies. In the years 1991-93 the most attention was paid firstly to the inclusion of Slovenian sport societies representing different sport disciplines, which became internationally recognized sport entities, in the international sport federations and secondly, to the establishing and the functioning of the independent Slovenian Olympic Committee. The relationship between the governmental and non-governmental sports organizations changed essentially, so did the financial and international relationships. For the future development of the top sport creativity in Slovenia stronger recognition of Slovenian athletes has to be achieved in the international field and the intense research and professional work with the young people have to take place at home.
