The aim of this paper is to present the preliminary results of the Visible Plaque Index (VPI) and Gingival Bleeding Index (GBI) and to evaluate the effect of individualized oral hygiene instructions provided to the intervention group. The study is being conducted within the PUŠ project »For a Healthy Smile :)«. A total of 86 medical students were included, with 45 assigned to the intervention group and 41 to the control group. VPI and GBI were recorded at baseline, after approximately six weeks, and after approximately twelve weeks. The data were analyzed using non-parametric statistical tests. In both groups, VPI and GBI values decreased significantly over time. However, no statistically significant differences were found between the intervention and control groups regarding the changes in either index. During the 12-week follow-up period, both visible plaque accumulation and gingival bleeding decreased in both groups, while the additional benefit of individualized oral hygiene instructions was not demonstrated statistically.
