In my thesis, I examine the experiences of individuals who spent part of their childhood in foster families in Slovenia, focusing on their experiences of foster care, family relationships, belonging and identity formation. Through the life stories of the participants, I explored how they experienced leaving their biological families, living in foster families and maintaining relationships with both their foster and biological families. I also examined the role of social work centres and the support individuals received during foster care and after leaving it. I used a qualitative research approach and conducted semi-structured interviews with individuals who had experienced foster care, a foster carer and a social worker. My research focuses on understanding foster care through the personal life stories and perspectives of those who have experienced it themselves.
