In the B. Sc. Thesis, we compared the feeding rations of dairy cows on a family farm and a larger agricultural holding, and analyzed the quality of the forage. The aim of the study was to identify differences in feed composition and feeding rations and, based on the findings, propose a more suitable ration for dairy cows. Particular attention was given to the nutrient content of the forage and the health of the animals. We compared a family farm with 15 Brown Swiss dairy cows and an agricultural holding with 60 Holstein dairy cows. Samples of forage were collected from both farms and analyzed in a laboratory. The results showed that the forage was of good quality; however, the grass silage on both farms was somewhat deficient in energy content. We compared the current feeding rations and found that the existing ration on Farm M was not the most appropriate. Therefore, we proposed a more balanced ration that could contribute to improved fertility, better body condition, and overall health of the dairy cows.
