The thesis discusses the topic of (un)availability of healthcare for self-employed persons in culture, examining how they make use of the healthcare services offered to them and what they do when they do not have the opportunity to access certain healthcare rights. I will examine the accessibility of healthcare and social rights on the basis of their right to pay contributions from the Ministry of Culture and the process that self-employed individuals must go through, their use of healthcare services and other circumstances (e.g. caring for sick family members or retirement). The thesis is based on an analysis of secondary sources and an ethnographic study among self-employed persons in culture, in which I have, on the basis of unstructured and semi-structured interviews, investigated their experiences with access to health services, their rights and why they do not exercise the various rights that should be theirs, as well as how they solve health problems when they encounter systemic barriers to accessing a doctor.
