This master's thesis examines the possibilities of deacidification and conservation-restoration of the paper figures from monumental painting Atelje by Gabrijel Stupica, as well as the influence of selected treatments on their long-term stability. The theoretical part presents the artwork, its history, creation and current condition. It also discusses paper deacidification and lining treatments, including their aims, mechanisms of action, advantages and limitations. For the practical part, model samples were prepared and used to test selected deacidification and lining methods. The samples were subsequently subjected to accelerated ageing. Changes in the colour of the paint layer, pH values, and the alkaline reserve content were monitored. To evaluate the applicability of the selected conservation-restoration procedures to the original material, a replica of one of the paper figures were produced and used for the simulation of the proposed treatments. Recommended storage and display conditions are also presented.
