This diploma thesis examines the Mrzli studenec section and the continuation of the Kobilji curek section, two newly measured sedimentological sections of the Ladinian intraplatform Kobilji curek Basin, and presents their microfacies analysis. The study area is located on the Rute Plateau approximately 25 km south of Ljubljana, within the External Dinarides geotectonic unit. The aim of this thesis was to build on existing knowledge of the carbonate succession of the Kobilji curek basin. The Mrzli studenec section spans 16.3 m, while the extension of the Kobilji curek section covers 61 m, from the top of the previously measured section at 233 m up to 294 m. A total of 27 thin sections were prepared from the two stratigraphic sections, 21 from Kobilji curek section and six from Mrzli studenec section. This provided the basis for a microfacies analysis, which distinguished seven microfacies types along the Kobilji curek section. Algal floatstone and cortoid bio-intraclastic grainstone to packstone are characteristic of a lagoonal setting. Microbial boundstone, coral boundstone and fenestral peloidal packstone occur along the reef margin, while bioclastic floatstone and lithoclastic rudstone represent sediments of a back-reef and/or upper slope. Three progradational sequences were identified within the succession, which terminates with limestone breccia marking the transition into basinal deposits. The Mrzli studenec section yielded three microfacies types comprising mudstone, fine bioclastic wackestone and filament wackestone indicative of deposition in a deep-water, strongly restricted basin. The presence of lamination and accumulation of organic matter further points to anoxic conditions. The results of this thesis contribute to the understanding of the evolution of this representative Ladinian basin of the Dinarides and provide a basis for further biostratigraphic study of the succession.
