The aim of this master’s thesis was to examine the daily gains of rams of the JezerskoSolčava and Improved Jezersko-Solčava breeds in a performance test at the Logatec testing station. The study included 1,606 rams tested between the years 2014 and 2024. Data were obtained from the Central Database for Small Ruminants. We examined the effects of breed, litter size, parity, age at entry into the isolation pen, breeder of origin, and season on daily gains. We found that litter size, parity, and age at entry into the isolation pen had a significant effect on daily gain between birth and entry into the isolation pen. Single lambs gained the most weight during this period (237.03 g/day), followed by triplets and quadruplets (230.02 g/day) and twins (225.81 g/day). Lambs from the 4th parity gained 239.88 ± 3.71 g/day. Rams that were younger at the time of transfer to the isolation pen gained weight more effectively. The difference between the breeds was in the daily gain between birth and entry into the isolation pen, where the Jezersko-Solčava breed rams achieved 226.01 g/day, while the Improved JezerskoSolčava breed rams reached 235.90 g/day, the difference was on the borderline of significance. Daily gain during performance test at the test station was significantly affected by parity and age at entry into the isolation pen. The lambs of ewes in their 8th parity gained the most weight (171.24 ± 4.91 g/day). Age at entry into the isolation pen, as a linear regression, showed a negative trend, as younger rams at entry achieved higher daily gain during the performance test than older ones. The proportion of variance explained by the effect of the breeder of origin on daily gains was the highest (46.9%) in the period between birth and entry into the isolation. The proportion of variance explained by the effect of season on daily gains was the highest (82.9%) during the period between transfer to the isolation and the first weighing.
