| Opomba: | TITLE: Irony in the contemporary Novel / Abstract: The master's thesis deals with irony in the contemporary Slovenian and German Novel. The novels Zmote dijaka Tjaža by Florjan Lipuš, Nož in jabolko by Ivanka Hergold, Pločevinasti boben by Günter Grass and Sečnja by Thomas Bernhard are analysed. The introduction provides a brief literary-historical context of the development of the contemporary novel after the World War II in Slovenia and the German-speaking world. This is followed by a theoretical chapter on irony, presenting its development from antiquity to the present day, its elements and types, as well as the problems of reading and recognising irony, with particular attention devoted to markers of irony. The main part of the thesis is dedicated to the analysis of the selected novels from the perspective of the use and function of irony. The conslucion
