The thesis presents floor and wall cladding known as opus sectile and other lithic decorational and
functional elements from the area of Emona's insula XXXIX. The fragments were discovered
during archaeological excavations in 2004/2005, 2007/2008 and 2018/2019, in the area of the
former factory Šumi in the city centre of Ljubljana. Archaeological excavations covered the area
of three Roman insulae: XXXIX, XXXIII and XLII. Since the construction of Roman Emona
around 15 AD to the end of the fourth century AD, the above mentioned insulae went through
different constructional changes. In the second half of the second century AD the northern part
of insula XXXIX was transformed into a thermal complex.
On the area of insula XXXIX and the nearby surroundings 209 fragments of slabs and other stone elements were discovered, that most likely belonged to mentioned thermal complex.
Marble and other stone fragments are in this thesis presented for the first time. The majority of the reviewed material are elements belonging to floor and wall opus sectile. These consist of different shapes and dimensions, the most dominating marble is the white marble, in addition
also other local and imported coloured stones were discovered. The material also includes some fragments of small sculptures made of white marble, pieces of stone equipment (such as large vessels or canal linings) and some tools (whetstones).
