Esports has developed into one of the fastest-growing cultural and economic phenomena of recent decades, expanding from small-scale gaming communities into a global industry generating billions of dollars annually. International competitions such as the League of Legends World Championship and Dota 2’s The International attract audiences rivaling major sporting events, underscoring the sector’s increasing visibility and legitimacy. While Slovenia represents a relatively small market, the country reflects global patterns through local events, institutional support, and individual success stories, including world-class players competing at the highest level. Sponsorships continue to drive the financial structure of esports, with non-endemic brands playing an increasingly prominent role, a trend also evident in Slovenia. At the same time, the health risks associated with sedentary playing routines and repetitive strain highlight the importance of structured training, physical activity, and psychological preparation for professional competitors. Looking forward, generational adoption and the planned Olympic esports competitions suggest that esports will remain a lasting part of global sport and culture. For Slovenia, these developments present both challenges and opportunities, offering the possibility to extend the country’s strong sporting tradition into the digital arena.
