Intermodal transport has played a crucial role in global freight transportation in recent years, as it enables efficient and sustainable logistics services, including the transport of oversized cargo. There are various forms of intermodal transport for oversized cargo, involving a combination of two or more modes of transport (road–rail or sea, rail–sea, or air). Oversized cargo requires time-sensitive and reliable services; therefore, transport organization represents a demanding and complex process. In this context, it is essential to consider the risks that may arise during transportation, ranging from road bottlenecks to adverse weather conditions at sea.
Accordingly, this bachelor’s thesis emphasizes the importance of organizing oversized cargo transport, which is carried out by freight forwarders. They must comply with the principles of timely and safe delivery of goods to the final customer, as well as with the applicable legislation of all countries through which the cargo is transported. The thesis analyzes the risks involved in organizing oversized cargo transport within a selected company. Based on the case study, several challenges were identified, including a shortage of qualified carriers, road bottlenecks, outdated railway infrastructure, and the lack of full digitalization of the entire process.
