This master's thesis deals with the Soriška Planina area and its future tourism development. Despite the efforts and wishes of the tourism center, there is still significant potential for tourism development and quality use of the space.
The thesis proposes a phased approach to tourism development, where the first phase involves developing a program for rainy days and upgrading infrastructure, the second phase increases accommodation capacity and revitalizes the Alpine Wall structures, and the third phase remains open but anticipates the need for an event space.
The project focuses specifically on the first phase, which plans a new herbal wellness at the site of the existing Litostrojska Hut, thereby preserving the significance of the Litostrojska location as a central point of activity, but with a renewed programme. At the same time, we are also improving the visitor access to the mountain by designing a new entrance building that serves as a chairlift station and combines all accompanying services such as ski storage, rental, and service of ski and cycling equipment, etc. Replacing the existing two-seater chairlift with a new four-seater chairlift ensures shorter lines, and the new technology also allows for use by less experienced skiers. The two buildings are connected through technology, as the recovered heat from the chairlift’s motor is used to provide additional heating for the wellness facilities.
The phased development and connection of buildings through technical aspect demonstrates, the advantages of connecting key players and of the integrated spatial planning of Slovenian ski resorts. Furthermore, the resort’s focus on becoming a year-round centre serves as a step toward its sustainable development.
