Today’s fast-paced lifestyle is marked by a hectic pace and constant pressures that affect children as well as adults. Children are increasingly exposed to stress and emotional strain. Since they are still developing the ability to recognize and regulate their emotions and needs, it is important for adults to provide them with appropriate support in developing these skills. In doing so, we positively encourage their emotional development, their ability to recognize their own emotions, and the development of emotional self-regulation. Therefore, in my thesis, I wanted to investigate the impact of a relaxation corner as a stimulating environment for children’s emotional self-regulation and the impact of relaxation activities on their ability to calm down. In the theoretical part, I first focused on children’s emotional and self-regulatory development, exploring this field with the help of domestic and foreign literature. I focused on the development of the expression and understanding of emotions in children. In the empirical part, I presented the relaxation corner that I designed in a quiet area of the kindergarten playroom. I also described the relaxation activities that I conducted once a week with the children. In the study, I used a qualitative case study involving children from a heterogeneous group and a teacher in a private childcare setting. I collected data through observation and analysis of the children’s behaviour, as well as an interview with the teacher. The results show that the introduction of a relaxation corner had a positive effect on calming the children and their recognition of emotions.
