The thesis addresses the safety analysis of signalized intersections where right turn on red is permitted. The purpose of the thesis was to assess the traffic safety suitability of the installed traffic sign at selected intersections in Ljubljana. The assessment was carried out on the basis of Slovenian legislation, professional guidelines, and recommendations issued by the Ministry of Infrastructure. Findings from foreign studies, particularly German and Austrian research, were also taken into account. The research part analyses six sign placements at five different intersections in Ljubljana. For each sign placement, the visibility distance from the legal stopping position, intersection geometry, and the presence of pedestrians, cyclists, and vulnerable road users were examined. The analysis was based on satellite imagery and field inspections of the intersections. The findings were then compared with selected professional criteria. The results showed that the traffic safety characteristics of individual sign placements differ from one another. The most common deficiency was insufficient visibility distance from the legal stopping position of the vehicle. For most of the analysed sign placements, further traffic safety assessment would be recommended. The findings of the thesis indicate that a general placement of the sign is not sufficient; instead, the traffic safety characteristics of each individual location should be assessed separately.
