To encourage reading and reading habits among Slovenian people, we designed a prototype of a Slovenian book application. We conducted an expert study with three existing book apps (Goodreads, LibraryThing and Dobre knjige), with which we identified their drawbacks and devised solutions for potential improvements. To design an app which meets user needs and wishes, we carried out interviews with seven Slovenian readers in June 2025, whom we recruited through convenience sampling. The interviewees were asked questions about their reading habits and their habits related to the use of mobile applications. Based on the results, we designed a paper prototype. Using the Wizard-of-Oz method, we simulated a working application and in July 2025 tested the paper prototype with four potential users. We used their feedback to create the final product: a visually and content-wise designed prototype of a Slovenian book application Knjižka. We designed a logo and icons, selected the official colors, and created the visual layout of all main pages and subpages. We defined the functionalities and drafted the information architecture scheme. Our book application prototype can be used as a blueprint for a future, working mobile application. The Knjižka application helps develop reading habits, promotes reading in the Slovenian language and the activities of Slovenian libraries, enables direct interaction between readers, Slovenian libraries, and authors, and supports the growth of the Slovenian reading community.
