In the thesis we establish an overview of the basic concepts of tropical geometry. We define the tropical semiring, the tropical polynomial, the tropical zero, the tropical curve and its dual subdivision. We name and prove important properties of the structures mentioned. We also include brief descriptions of MATLAB programs, which we use to plot tropical curves and their dual subdivisions. The goal of the thesis is to develop a robust understanding of the concepts. To achieve this, there is an emphasis on intuitions and examples. The reader is not expected to have a preexisting knowledge base of algebraic geometry, but they are expected to be familiar with the basics of linear algebra.
